All 3 and 4-year-olds living in England are entitled to 15 hours of funded childcare per week, regardless of income levels, benefit status, or family circumstances. In addition, Working parents or carers of children may be entitled to an extra 15 hours of childcare per week if they meet the eligibility criteria. This initiative aims to support parents in gaining or increasing employment while providing children with access to high-quality care and education. Funding ends when your child starts reception class. Families who do not qualify for the full 30 hours can still pay for additional hours, subject to availability.
Wolviston Primary School’s Nursery Provision
At Wolviston Primary, we have a 24 place Nursery and accept applications for all 3-year-olds to access our 15-hour provision which runs from 8:40 am to 11:40 am Monday to Friday, during term time.
Our daily offer, a 3hr morning session each day, encourages daily attendance, establishes consistent routines and ensures continuity in the child’s learning and social experiences.
We know through our extensive experience and research, that daily attendance supports children to settle more easily and enables them to foster strong relationships with both peers and teachers. By promoting these habits throughout Nursery, we aim to ensure a smooth transition into full-time school, where ongoing learning, social development, and emotional well-being are nurtured. This approach provides a stable foundation for each child’s growth and long-term success.
To maintain the highest standards of care and education in our small setting, we can only offer a limited number of places for 30-hour provision. Maintaining appropriate staffing ratios is essential to ensure the safety, well-being, and quality of education we provide. This approach enables us to prioritise the best possible outcomes for every child in our care. We take into account the emotional readiness and independent skills of each individual before offering to extend their hours. The 30 hours of free childcare can be split between multiple providers to best suit your family’s needs and we will be able to offer guidance and signpost if we can not meet your requirements. For example, children may attend our nursery every morning and use the remaining hours with a childminder or another childcare provider.

Wrap Around Care
At Wolviston Primary School, we also provide a Wrap Around Care service, including breakfast and after-school provision, designed to offer a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for children, 4yrs and above.
Our Wrap Around Care provision runs separately to the 30 hours provision offer. Places, including breakfast and after-school clubs, are available Monday to Friday during term time, from 7:40am to 6:00pm. Places are limited and must be booked in advance.
Wrap Around Care is led by two experienced and qualified staff members, Mrs Henry and Miss Hosie, who are well-known to the children. Their understanding of each child’s individual needs enables them to build trusting relationships while fostering a warm and welcoming atmosphere. They carefully plan activities that promote social, emotional, and cognitive development, ensuring a seamless extension of the school day. Their dedication ensures children feel supported, valued, and happy in their care.
